If you’ve ever been to the Deep South, then you’re probably familiar with a classic dish that combines sweet and savory flavors. Chicken and waffles, according to PBS.org, states “The earliest American chicken and waffle combination appears in Pennsylvania Dutch country during the 1600’s, when home cooks made waffles and topped them with pulled chicken and gravy.” Since then, succulent fried chicken atop a homestyle-cooked waffle has been a southern staple.
